Fun fact: Brazilian currency has animals on it's back and I only recently realized this isn't a normal thing. Like the face on them is always the same (it's inspired in a french drawing and it's suppose to be liberty) but depending on the value we got different animals.

2 bucks is a sea turtle (specificaly a tartaruga-de-pente or hawksbill sea turtle, it's a critically endengered animal and it's actually present on my state and we have an ONG focused on helping sea life, rescuing animals and rehabilitating them to put them back on nature if possible, we can pay to visit those animals and while some can't adapt and life there mostly the visists are unique because the animals change as more are rescue and others are put back on nature, that's to say I actually saw this turtle and specially it's babies and it's really cute)

5 bucks is the Great Egret, specificaly the american continent subtype.

10 bucks is the red and green macaw it isn't endengered different of the spix macaw but it's a huge target of animal traffic to the point it disappeared from some states.

20 bucks is the golden lion tamarin it's an endengered species specially because the destruction of it's habitat. This is also the first one mentioned whose currency is coloquially called by the animal name (mico) and there is even checky adds about how it may be worth 20 bucks but it's illigal to acquire a golden lion tamarin (the animal, the money is legal and if anyone wants to give it to me I'm not refusing). In Brazil mico can also coloquially refer to doing something embarassing.

50 bucks is a jaguar. And it's also one of the ones whose animal is used to refere to the money (onça). Actually we have a significant number of popular expressions with the jaguar and none of them are remotely related to how badass the animal is. Like "friend of the jaguar" that means "fake person".

100 bucks is a fish. And it's the one whose is mostly colloquialy called by the animal specially on Southwest Brazil. So yeah if you hear someone say "wow you have a lot of fishes" at random while someone is buying something they mean the guy has a lot of hundreds. The fish in question is the Grouper. It's a fun weird fish who is also endangered and has a lot of protection laws around it. It's also - acording to people who ate it, mostly up north - very yummy (it does have a specific period where you can't catch it).

200 bucks (a newer currency that started to be used 2 to 3 years ago) is the maned wolf. It isn't endengered yet but it's population is near endegerement and a lot of it is because both the destruction of it's habitat and the unrestricted hunt (poor baby was considered dangerous for people and farm animals for years even though he is only a danger to chicken and only if you don't lock them at night, not only that but it's mainly an herbivore and it helps the enviroment because it spreds seeds either with it's poop or by digging the fruit and forgeting to get it back. It's favorite fruit is even called "wolf fruit" for no reason besides the fact people noticed it loves it. I swear the maned wolf it's just the best boy and we should let it leave in piece goddamit.) Also they are truly a loner wolf species mostly hanging in familiar units when the babies are small and them going solo the rest of the time. They are shy and have dificulty to trust people and objects but are very curius. It's brazilian name "lobo-guará" comes from the tupi (one of the most prevalent native languages) for red because of it's mane (while it's mane is mostly orange or red it has dark legs and paws so they look like they have boots or socks). Okay I do have a favorite between all the animals. Sorry.

Iconic Fanfictions ive read two years ago and what I currently remember of them:

I will premise this by saying that these fanfics were famous only in certain specific niches of the internet, and that when i say that a work is badly written or i critique it in anyway it?s just my opinion from what i vaguely remember, whihch might not be correct. 

Fanfics below the cut: filthy lucre, asotm, twist and shout, the hat and lung fics, anatomy of a fall, throam, unholyverse. feelfree to add what you remember of “famous fanfics” you’ve read.

tw for mentions of: sexual assault, violence, animal abuse, pedophilia and some other upsetting topics. 

The Milk Fic

Oh my God this was bad but not nearly as extreme as other fics. An iconic and shocking read i do not recommend, but if you really want to read it it will not ruin your life, your month at most. 

From what i remember at least the sex was consensual aaaaaaand i don’t remember any other good/decent aspects about it. 

Very famous, a lot of ppl have read it, gerard way said it was “well-written” but honestly it wasn’t.

Filthy Lucre

So bad i don’t remember the plot. They’re prostitutes i think? there definitely was an abusive relationship and the sex scenes were so bad i had to skip all of them, meaning i read the whole thing in half an hour.

Really terrible, they don’t end up toghether and that’s the only interesting element. I recomend no one reads this unless you are literally dying of boredom.

Twist and Shout

This is considered one of the good ones and you know what? for iconic fanfiction standards it’s not bad at all, decently-written with actual characters that don’t feel, like most fanfic characters, like bad ooc versions of the original.

How about the overcomplicated plot tho? I don’t remember a thing except for the homophobia (its set in the 50s-60s), the war, the Elvis songs, one cute sad beach scene and one of the protagonists dying of aids. Maybe they also watch star trek,idk; lots to unpack. 

If you want to suffer and you have lots of free time i recommend it, i skipped most of the sex scenes but there is an actual plot so that was not a problem.

(original Destiel version) 8/10 bc I don’t remember how they handled the aids thing but it made me uncomfortable, might be just bc of the upsetting subject matter but i don’t remember

The Hat Fic

DO NOT READ THIS THING. Go read the milk fic if you want weird but not this one please. A milk enema is NOTHING. Contains animal abuse and i don’t remember how consensual the whole thing was.

I CAN ASSURE YOU THIS MAKES ME WANT TO PUKE TO THIS DAY I FEEL SICK WRITING THIS. There is a whole subset of early phanfiction centered on being as disgusting and upsetting as possible and i think this started it.

I higly doubt anyone got off on this but still the possibility unsettles me.

A splitting of the Mind

Some people insist on treating this as one of the good iconic fics but it’s bad. 

So bad its actually an interesting read if you feel like analizing some text, trying to see what is so appealing about it, despite its evident flaws.

The age gap is 19-16 so not as bad as the Other Iconic mcr Fanfic About Doves that i did not read bc from what i remember it was basically pedophilia/grooming but i might be wrong. God the bar is so low

Portrayal of mantal illness and trauma was truly a shitshow, the writing was not great but also not horrible. The sexual assault elements upset me greatly but it might be just bc of the subject matter

pros: unreliable narrator done decently, ray toro’s character saw the future looking in cereal, characters are characters and not merely names (not to be confused with actual good characterization), nothing else.

(original frerard version) 5/10 for the effort honestly, but i do not recommend this unless you are mentally ready for some heavy topics handled poorly.

The Lung Fic

This was written with the goal of shocking the reader, in the same vein as all hat fic/ milk fic copycats.

 Should be more upsetting, given it contains gore, pedophilia and a bunch of other disgusting madness (maybe mpreg?), but it just reads as a fanfiction taboo list.

Not worth reading at all, clearly intentionally designed to shock and disgust to the point where it’s obvious.

0/10 i don’te remember which version, irrelevant, don’t waste your time

Anatomy of a fall

Contains ghosts, high school au, possibly resurrection or death, idk.

I don’t remember this being particularly offensive in any way, but its been a long time. Then again i did not read the sex scenes so it might contain necrophilia and i wouldn’t know. (i checked and no necrophilia, just “weird supernatural sex”)

is it well written? no, but it’s not outragiously badly-written. Is it funny sometimes? yes.

 In the context of this list, this might be a good one, in any other context probably not. I might be biased bc i love ghost stories in general and this one does not contain sexual assault if i remember correcly. (The bar is soooo low)

 The Heart Rate of a Mouse

Good but not in the classical meaning of the word. It contains some Hot TakesTM on human sexuality, substance abuse and unhealthy relationship(s).

Its set in the 70s so the homophobia is there and she is thriving. Wonderful internalized homophobia, really 10/10 for that.

The sex and the plot sometimes intersect, putting me in the uncomfortable position of having to  read smut or not knowiong what is going on (0/10 ).

Well written for the genre (=beloved fanfictions that are rarely redeemable); characters are original and flawed, even interesting sometimes.

The plot is three pubblished books worth of plot available for free on the internet and that is a blessing. I suggest reading this as if all the characters are OCs and you found this book forgotten on the train and decided to read it. 

But is it actually good as a story? idk its a lot honestly, if you have to quarantine for 14 days bc of covid and you don’t have anything to study, this will fill at least 4 full days of reading.

Unholyverse

Contains Demons, priests, scarfs, exorcisms(affectionate), vergin mary tatoos and much more. Not as carefully written as throam or tas, but it still makes it as one of the good  fanfics solely for the cool factor.

It would be so cool if this was better written and a comicbook or a grafic novel with original characters.( I skipped all the sex scenes bc they made me uncomfy, as usual so idkwhat was going on there)

If there was anything extremely upsetting about this one i forgot about it (i checked: they say “ warnings for religious themes, pain, trauma, blood, torture and death”). There is a lot of plot, its not even just one fic its a whole serie. 

Great for passing the time, I forgot most of it 7/10 for the demons (original version)

Alright it was meant to be light and fun but turned angsty and deep oops.

Plot: Tim caught a girl stealing and there was something special about her and so he doesn't want to give up on the girl, although she did it again.

Also Tim is like 20

The full moon was all the light Tim needed to scout the city. Gotham always had some sort of darkness to her, but in the moon's light. He never understood his fondness of the night's sky when there's a full moon, after all, you can barely see the stars. Maybe he knew, after all, it was exacly a month ago that he met you.

It was nothing more than a petty thievery but even that is illigal, and as he was already in the area, he had to stop it.

He swoon down before the thief, and his eyes fell on yours. He saw something in the the deep blue. He told you to put it all back, and he won't report it and you complied, not before making a smart remark. Clearly you recognized the wrong in your doings. But before he had the chance to ask for her name, or even say a word, she was gone.

Something about you felt different than the other criminals he stops. Or maybe he's just getting confused over your beauty. 'God Tim, get a grip', he thought to himself, and yet, he was still thinking about you, hoping you would show up in one of those nights.

To his surprise, he did not have to wonder any longer for your fate. There you were, near a jewlary show, stealing. Your (y/h/c) hair sync with the wind. He sighed to himself.

"'Fancy' meeting you here" he dropped behind the girl, with a proud smirk.

When your eyes fell on his you quickly came to your senses with a witty tone "what? Was that a pun? I thought that was more of nightwing's thing."

"It's a robin's thing realy" red robin stood proud behind his pun, his red suit showing his biceps and fit built, while the black mask added to the mystery.

You were visibly hiding the jewlary you were stealing behind your back, hoping the prespective man wouldn't notice.

It made him chuckle, that you thought the world's best detective would miss it.

"Back to our old ways, i see?" Tim called and you looked away.

"I gave you a chance last time, why do this again?" Tim couldn't help but wonder to himself, 'She is young, probably 19 give or take, and very pretty, she probably could find something more respectful than a life of a criminal in Gotham'.

"And you know what? I thank you for it, but that was worth shit" a clearly cinical ton in her voice that made him wonder what was going through your mind.

You looked at him as he tried to put his thoughts into words. "And here i thought i did something nice" was the only sentence he could make out while looking into your eyes. He took few steps toward you as you took one back.

"Oh? And what, you want a prize for that?" You replied, half cinical, half flirting. 'Was she flirting?' His cheeks turned slightly red.

"I just don't understand. Youre young, you can get a respectful job. Why steal?" He finaly organized his thoughts into words.

A soft chuckle left your mouth as a broken smile formed on your lips. You looked down on the ground, clearly deep in thoughts as he felt compaled to close the gap between you.

Then you looked up, and your smile changed into a sly smirk.

"Well, that's peachy. But i have stuff planed for the rest of the night" the called as you passed him, brushing on his side while doing so.

A second of confusion as he turned around, quickly catching your hand, so you could not leave.

He pulled softly to stop you as you turned back to him.

His eyes yet again connected with yours and he got lost for a moment longer. He was so close he could feel your breath on his neck, and he had to admit he liked it.

"What do you want from me?" You could barely breath out. This closeness had you out of breath.

He was holding your hand still, while trying to ignore his heart rate, that was way faster than it should. "To show you there's another way." He whispered to you as he reached to your chin, holding it softly.

Another cinical giggle left her mouth as she slowly pulled away from his grip. "Yeah that's cute. But ugh... no thank you."

He was trying to read your face expressions as you continued "i appreciate what youre trying to do, but i think you don't get it"

"Make me get it" he replied with a low grin.

You shook her head and said quietly "i'm a lost cause". You said with a hint of a smile.

This only made him chuckle."noone is beyond hope" he took a step closer, again trying to close the distance between you.

"Well, i'm noone so..." you stated and he could feel an ache in his chest.

If he had to be honest, he wasn't sure either why he cared so much. There was something in your eyes. Something that seemed sincere. Almost... out of place, here in gotham. Something that was not fitting with being a criminal.

"Youre wrong." He called after a small pause he needed to collect his thoughts. It was such a sad thing to say on yourself, that you are noone. Being noone means being invisible, like a stray dog. "Some people just need someone to believe in them, that doesn't make them noone".

You looked at the young man, he looked like he himself believes in what he says, like it's not just something he denture and preach each time he meets a crook. "Is that what you believe in? People?" You asked.

He took your intrest as a sign to take another step forward. Now he was facing you toe to toe again. All along keeping eye contact with the lost girl he saw before him.

"Yes. And humanity." He stated proud of his remarks. Bruce had thought him that, 'noone is beyond hope, noone beyond saving'. And so he always kept that in mind.

Your eyes changed. Like something inside of you snapped as you forrowed your eyebrows. Your eyes slowly getting wetter. Which you clearly tried to hide as you backed away, looking to the side, and slipping away from him again.

"Well fuck humanity, and fuck people, and fuck you too." You looked at him. His words made you remember the time you used to believe the same things. How time and time again reality hit her. And in that moment, he was everything wrong with the world. He became all the people who broke yoy, and your spirit. "I don't know who you think you are, but i know what you aren't. You're not a god. Just a pretty strong human with hell lotta time on his hands." A quiet sob you tried to mute left your mouth.

Tim looked at you. He finaly realised what he saw in your eyes. He saw a broken believer. He saw someone who wanted to believe in the good of man, but just can't. It was a sad realization. He couldn't help but wonder how long have you been like this. How many people out there are feeling this. Wanting to believe in the good of mankind, but were stolen of this privilage. He wondered what happened to you to make her this have this sarcastic take on the world.

"I'm so sorry." Was the few words he could get out of his mouth. He realized that he might have pushed you too much too quickly.

"I don't know what happened before, but i can help you-" he was cut before he finushed as you objected "i don't need your help"

He wiped a tear from your cheek "i know you don't need it. But i want to, if you'll let me"

Tim slowly cupper your face as his thumb traced up and down your cheek. "May i know your name?" He softly asked as his other hand found yours.

His eyes looked deep into yours, and for the first time in a long time, you felt safe.

"It's (y/n)"
